2016 NGV Architecture Design Competition

Echoing The Famous Spiegeltent, this enveloping arena encourages interactive performances, discussions and parties. The plan and the form of the structure are inspired by the pure geometries common to the work of the late Sir Roy Grounds, in particular The Grounds House – a prototype for The National Gallery of Victoria 10 years later. Both designs place a circular void within a square plan, promoting inward focus; and expansive horizontal openings which connect and frame the surrounding landscape. The work is to be seen as a non-representational sculpture that conquers the landscape and invites personal exploration, much like the work of the influential sculptor Inge King.
