A monolithic board-form concrete blade-and-beam structure controls the program, environmental performance and structural logic of this extension [1]. It serves as a reminder of the widespread use of concrete in the 50’s and 60’s by the European migrants that enriched Brunswick and surrounding areas.

Terracotta tiles and blackbutt timber joinery provide a sense of warmth to the integrated dining nook - rendering this space as the 'heart of the home'

The seamless transition between the outdoor and indoor spaces is enabled by a series of oversized timber framed floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors. This transition is further explored with the use of the warm terracotta tiles both internally and externally

The kitchen is central to the open plan layout, sitting between the step-down living area and cosy dining nook. The accent of colour is considered throughout the extension, from the Yves Klein blue carpet to the warm terracotta wall tiles
The addition picks up on datum lines and proportions of the existing weatherboard home, reinterpreting the geometries in a refined and repetitious manner
